AUNE ELIZABETH MACARIO (Ranta)
Aune Elizabeth Macario, 92, of Bijiki Road, Princeton, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, May 18, 2017 at the Eastwood Nursing Center in the care of her loving family.
Aune was born January 6, 1925 in Rolling Mill Location, Negaunee to Jacob and Ida (Holmi) Ranta and graduated from Negaunee High School. She had three brothers: Leslie (Esther), Raymond (Kathy) and Sulo (Wilma) Ranta; and one sister, Lila.
In 1941, Aune met her future husband, Joseph, and they were united in marriage on March 11, 1943. They purchased their home in Princeton in 1946 where they raised their four children, and they all graduated from Gwinn High School.
Aune was a loving and devoted homemaker. She did work briefly as a seamstress at the H.W. Gossard Co. in Gwinn, and also for the Gwinn School System. Her major hobby was playing cribbage, and she was a member of the Gwinn Cribbage League. Aune and her husband played at least three games a day, when her sons visited they were always challenged to play! She also loved watching the Detroit Tigers. Most of all, she cherished time spent with her family.
Surviving are her three sons: Mike (Barb) of Princeton, John (Kathy) of Gwinn and Joey (Suzie) of Princeton; daughter, Patti (Neil) Armatti of Branson, MO; her brother, Sulo (Wilma) Ranta of Fayetteville, Pennsylvania; 13 grandchildren: Michael (Debbie) Macario, Jr., April, Shannon and Raymond Macario, Neil Joe (Kim) Armatti, Becky (David) Syrja, Cory (Supi) Armatti, John (Nina) Macario, Jr., Jodi (Chris) Macario-Skoglund, Ryan (Netti) Macario, and Andrew and Bradley Macario; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons, a great-great-granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 69 years, Joseph, on February 10, 2012; her brothers, Leslie and Raymond Ranta; an infant sister, Lila; and her grandson, Aaron Armatti.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, May 23rd at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Rev. Allen Mott officiating. Burial will be in the Gwinn Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends in the Baraga Room from 10:00 am until the time of Mass at 12:00 noon, and also at a luncheon in the church hall following services. Aune’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
