Obituary for DAVID JOHN MANNILA

David J. Mannila
Negaunee
David John Mannila, 61, of Ridge St., Negaunee, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at UP Health System Marquette.
David was born February 18, 1955 in Ishpeming to Elaine M. Mannila, graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1974 and was a lifelong area resident. He was most recently employed as a groundskeeper at Holy Cross Cemetery in Marquette.
David was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and four-wheeling. He was also a fan of the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs, and attended many games. He of course was thrilled when his beloved Cubs won the 2016 World Series.
Surviving are 2 brothers, Rick (Pat) Petrocik of Ishpeming and Robert Petrocik of Marquette; sister-in-law, Cindy Petrocik of Marquette; 2 aunts, Lorraine (George) Makela of Houghton and Virginia Mannila of Ishpeming; longtime friend, Mike Cleghorn of Negaunee; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elaine (Mannila) Petrocik; longtime companion, Laurie Cleghorn; a brother, Gary Petrocik; an aunt, Gloria Trombetta; 3 uncles, Edward, Leroy and Donald Mannila; and maternal grandparents, John and Tillie Mannila.
Honoring David’s wishes, the family will greet family and friends for a celebration of David’s life at the Negaunee V.F.W. on Sunday, December 11th from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm. Interment will be in the Negaunee Cemetery.
David’s family would like to extend a warm thank you to the Doctors and Nurses at U.P. Health System Marquette for the compassionate care provided to him.
