AILEEN AMELIA JOHNSON (Franti)
Aileen A. Johnson
Negaunee
Aileen Amelia Johnson, 93, of Carr St., Negaunee, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, November 12, 2016 at the Eastwood Nursing Center with her loving family at her side.
Aileen was born February 9, 1923 on the family farm in Covington to Henry and Josephiina (Helberg) Franti, graduated from Amasa High School, Class of 1940, and within the past week was able to sing the Amasa fight song for her family. She married Walfred Johnson June 22, 1946 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Covington.
Mrs. Johnson was a devout member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was a proud member of the “Finnish speaking” Mary Circle. She was a wonderful homemaker and mother, her interests included cooking and baking, and she was well known for her ‘world famous’ potato salad. She also enjoyed working puzzle books and traveling the country to visit her children and beloved grandchildren.
Surviving are two daugthers: Betty (Stephen) Chipman of Colorado Springs and Linda (Stefan) Wisniewski of Baltimore; three sons: David Johnson of Merrill, WI, Jeffrey (Pam) Johnson of Negaunee and Randy (Melanie) Johnson of Appleton, WI; 10 grandchildren: Holly, Michael, Theresa, Dawn ‘Birdie’, JoBeth, Jason, Andrew, Maryann, Emily and Evan; nine great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Jolene Johnson-Van Den Elzen; son-in-law, Donald Williams; sisters-in-law: Viola Manninen and Vienna Forslund; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Walfred Johnson in 1977; her daughter JoAnn Williams in 2015; her best friends and sisters this year: Elsie Kantola in March and Laina Partanen in October; along with four sisters: Ida, Senia, Martha, and Esther; and five brothers: Walfred, Waino, William, Toivo and Victor.
Aileen’s family extends a special thank you to the staff at Eastwood Nursing Center for their wonderful and compassionate care provided over the past two years.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, November 18th at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Solberg officiating. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 1:00 pm until the time of services at 3:00 pm at the church on Friday, and also at a dinner reception in the church hall immediately following services. Aileen’s sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in her memory to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
