Helen E. Tammelin, 92, of Negaunee, passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, September 14, 2016 at the Norlite Nursing Center.
Helen was born April 23, 1924 in Humboldt Township to Daniel and Flora (Kallatsa) Arpiainen and attended school in Diorite before becoming a lifelong Negaunee area resident. She was a wonderful homemaker and spent her life caring for her family.
Mrs. Tammelin was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Negaunee. In her free time she enjoyed knitting and sewing.
Surviving are five sons: David Tammelin of Negaunee, Daniel Tammelin of Champion, Duane (Luann) Tammelin of Negaunee, Daryl (Barbara) Tammelin of Republic and Dean (Brenda) Tammelin of Baraga; one daughter, Diana Pirkola of L’Anse; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Evelyn Chenoweth of Ishpeming. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John Tammelin, Jr. in 1989; a son, Dale Tammelin in 1955; four sisters and five brothers.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 pm on Wednesday, September 21st in the Negaunee Cemetery with Rev. Steven Solberg, Pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church, officiating.
