Obituary for PETER PAUL TOUSIGNANT

PETER PAUL TOUSIGNANT
Peter Tousignant
Negaunee Township
Peter Paul Tousignant, 91, of Midway Drive, Negaunee Township, entered eternal life Saturday afternoon, August 13, 2016 at the Eastwood Nursing Center in the loving care of his family and UP Home Health and Hospice.
Peter was born April 26, 1925 in Gwinn to Wilfred and Mary (Trottier) Tousignant and graduated from Gwinn High School. Upon graduating, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served during WWII as a radioman second class. Following his service to his country, Peter was employed as an electrician for Cleveland Cliffs, retiring with 31 years of service with the company. He had also worked at K.I. Sawyer’s Precision Measurement Equipment Lab, Marquette General Hospital and Snowberry Heights.
Mr. Tousignant was a devout and active member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Negaunee and previously of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Gwinn. He was proud to have sung in the church choirs for over 60 years, especially singing nearly 50 years alongside his wife. Peter was also a member of the Gwinn VFW, Knights of Columbus in Negaunee, the Negaunee Male Chorus, and he often volunteered to visit and sing at numerous local nursing homes.
Peter enjoyed music and singing, senior day at the casino and watching wrestling on TV. Most of all, he loved his time spent with family, especially his beloved grandchildren. Peter had a wonderful sense of humor, always full of life with an optimistic outlook which he spread to those around him.
Surviving are four sons: Fred (Carol) Tousignant, Peter (Kathy) Tousignant, Dennis (Julia) Tousignant and Thomas (Jorge Torres) Tousignant; two daughters: Linda (Carl) Pellinen and Mary (Thomas) Claflin; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, Jane Zimmerman; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife Theresa (Liquia) Tousignant in 2004; and siblings: Josephine, Mary Isabelle, Blanche, William, Francis, Mary Louise, Mary Margaret, Alice, Telisphore, Paul, Harriet and Margaret.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Friday, August 19th at St. Paul Catholic Church with Monsignor Peter Oberto officiating. Visitation will be held the evening prior from 5-7 pm at Koskey Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Northland Chapel Gardens. Pallbearers will be Peter’s grandsons: Dennis J., Adam and Mark, and great-grandsons: Dennis Jay, Christian and Matthew. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Paul Catholic Church or UP Home Health and Hospice in Peter’s memory.
